Filming

First filming:

Location Bar: When we got to Bar Latitude on Friday morning at 10 on the 10th of March, it was empty and perfect for us to start setting up. Claudia from our course helped us by making the scar on the face of the actress, whose name is Holly. My favourite corner in the bar was empty as well so I could show the cameramen which wall I would prefer to see behind Cortana and which behind Damon.

Props: We used props like a notebook, a pen and a cleaning wipe as work related items for Cortana, a phone for Damon and a coffee mug on a table for another customer played by our producer.

Cortana: The scar on Holly’s face was made with cotton, glue and skin foundation, it looked amazing. Holly was wearing a grey shirt, black pants, black shoes and a black apron as planned. I had also bought round glasses and they looked pretty convincing on her. When it came to her hair being in a ponytail with some of it down on her face, I decided to have all of her hair up, so that the scar would be more visible.

Damon: On the first day of filming Matt, the actor, was wearing a white T-shirt, a black leather jacket, dark pants, dark shoes and a wrist watch as planned. We didn’t use any close-ups of his hands and most of the time the watch was covered by the sleeve of his jacket, so it’s not noticeable in the film.

Second filming:

Location Street: The location choice was limited, because we needed to use a car in the scene we were about to shoot and as it didn’t belong to any of our crew members, we had to go somewhere the owner of the car could easily come. We agreed to shoot in Sevenoaks. We reached our destination on Tuesday morning at 11 on the 14th of March  and started shooting right away.

Props: In the flashback scene we used props like a phone for Cortana. It is an important part of the scene, where she is distracted by her phone and gets hit by a car.

Cortana: I wanted to make Cortana look very happy, vibrant and confident before the crash. A dress with colourful flowers that Holly ownes was the perfect choice. We complemented it with dark tights and a leather jacket to make her look nice and modern. She was also wearing a big hat and a grey scarf. She didn’t wear sunglasses as planned because there was no sun, so she wore the normal glasses she wore in the bar as well. We also didn’t use red lipstick, cause it would have been to much red on her face with all the blood after the crash.

Damon: To change his look a little bit we went for a bomber jacket this time instead of a leather jacket. He also wore dark pants and a grey sweater instead of a T-shirt, cause it was more weather appropriate. We used a grey beanie instead of a coloured one and it actually went well together with the whole outfit. I had planned him to wear white or very light shoes for his feet to be noticeable as the director wanted to film his foot hitting the break as the crash would happen, but as she changed her mind, the dark shoes did their job. We also didn’t use the wrist watch any more, cause it wasn’t noticeable in the first scenes so wouldn’t have had any point in this one.

Cortana after the crash: Because we were filming this scene quite far away from Greenwich I didn’t want to ask Claudia to come so far to paint the cut on her face, so I tried to make something myself. I used glue to make the loose skin on the edges of the scar and then poured it over with fake blood. As Holly went to lie on the ground I put on some additional paint for it to trip down her face in the right direction. Cortana had lost her hat and glasses in the crash so we didn’t have them near her and I placed her scarf wide apart on the crass as it would have fallen with her falling down. I also positioned her body as I had planned previously, so it looked like posed.
